Hope :: Seek the Light

Images like the one that graces this post are my signs for hope. I realize there’s a scientific explanation for them. There is for all things, really.

However, Somebody had to design the universe for these scientific phenomena to be possible, in my personal opinion.

Anyway, I digress.

As I said, those sun rays are one of my biggest signs of hope.

Usually, when I’m struggling mentally and/or spiritually, I feel trapped in darkness. I have a terrible habit of trying to figure out how to fix things on my own because for some unknown and ridiculous reason, I feel like asking for help is a form of weakness.

It’s not.

For those who feel that way, I completely understand! But it just isn’t true.

Humans are meant to live in community. We’re supposed to be able to turn to our family and/or friends to walk our way through life.

I also believe in a God Who made me and loves me.

But even with all of that, I still have this urge to close myself off and fix everything all by myself.

And fail miserably.

It’s when I’m in that dark place that the lights appear. I’ll step outside and see the rays shining down through the leaves in the trees. I’ll be taking the exit for home and look over the valley and see the rays shining around the clouds.

I usually have to pause and watch for a few moments so I can soak in the light and remember the support system I’ve got.

I want to make a strong point here. Your light CANNOT be a person. Yes, people can help guide you and walk beside you in life. And yes, there will be times when a person may help you find peace and light in your life.

However, you can’t put that sort of responsibility on another person. You can’t count on another person to be your constant light. 1) They have troubles of their own and will let you down sometimes. 2) This is codependency.

How often do you forget to seek the light? I forget the light all the time.

Seek the light, my friend. No matter what it looks like for you, seek the light. Find something (healthy) in this world that breathes hope back into you. It doesn’t need to be huge. Sun rays are definitely not huge (well, beyond their actual size, haha!). Sun rays are just a beautiful part of nature that brings hope to my life when I’m feeling down.

Seek the positive. Seek the light.
