Hope :: Setting Small Goals

I don’t know about you, but I struggle with setting goals. A huge part of my struggle is that I don’t like setting small goals. On the flip side, the goals I tend to set are so far out of the realm of possibility that I become discouraged and don’t want to do anything anymore.

Sound familiar at all?

I know a lot of people struggle in a similar way.

What I’ve learned is that setting small goals can be a very positive thing. For some people, small goals keep people from chasing their full potential. For other people, setting a ‘small’ goal is a huge deal. Accomplishing that goal gives you a huge boost of confidence.

I find when I set small goals, I’m living with purpose and motivation. Once I’m doing that, I reach and often exceed my goals. When that happens, I can start setting larger goals (though I still tend to overreach and have to start all over again once I fall back to the bottom of the staircase of reaching a goal…)

Setting a ‘small’ goal isn’t a small thing at all. Do what you can. Set a goal you know you can achieve. This will help you reach other goals and eventually reach where you’re aiming.
