Hope :: Living Joyfully

Okay, if you know me personally, you know that I (typically) have a very bubbly personality. At home, I tend to be more subdued, usually because I’m recharging. It kind of isn’t fair to my family, but if I’m being honest, that’s where I am.

Anyway, I digress.

Being bubbly doesn’t necessarily mean a person is joyful. Being subdued doesn’t mean a person isn’t joyful.

Joy doesn’t have anything to do with our outward portrayal.

Joy is simply finding the positives in life and focusing on them. It’s allowing the positives to outweigh the negatives.

Joy is an active choice.

The most bubbly person in the world could also be the most miserable. (No, I’m not saying I’m the most miserable person in the world! I just used my personality as an illustration to open this post.)

I’m not asking you to put on a mask to seem joyful. That would make this entire post moot.

Instead, I’m encouraging you to find one positive every single day and then focus on that positive.

The positive may seem minuscule and unimportant, but if you allow it to be your focus, especially in the midst of hard times, you’ll find that your spirit has lifted a little. You’ll start feeling a little lighter. Nothing has become perfect. Most situations haven’t even changed. But inside? Inside, you feel a little different.

That, my friend, is joy.

It’s hard to begin living joyfully. It’s a learned practice just like anything else.

What are you focusing on today to find joy in life?
