What if I’ve:
- smoked
- gotten drunk
- done drugs
- had sex
- done sexual activities
- attempted suicide
What if I struggle with:
- depression
- anxiety
- self-harm
- anorexia
- bulimia
- overeating
- addiction
Do you see yourself in any of the above words? Do you relate with any of those things?
Do you believe that falling into any of those categories makes you or anyone else worthless or unworthy? If so:
STOP
If you believe you’re worthless or unworthy: YOUR LIFE MATTERS. We all have our own personal struggles. You might feel like the choices you’ve made have made you worse than others. You might feel that you’re beyond redemption. I want you to focus on these words. Speak them to yourself (out loud or just in your thoughts):
My life matters. I deserve to be loved. I deserve to feel love.
If you don’t feel like you can say these words to yourself yet, I challenge you to copy them onto sticky notes or a dry erase board where you can see them and read them every single day. You are beautiful, scars and all.
Now, on the other hand, if you are the one thinking others are worthless or unworthy because of their decisions compared to your own:
We all make mistakes.
Not one of us has led a blameless life. I challenge you to meet others where they are. Instead of judging them for the choices they’ve made, get to know them. Meet them person to person. You may be shocked by what you find out. A lot of times, there are things happening in their lives that you can’t imagine. When no one tries to understand, it becomes really easy to internalize everything and refuse to open up to anyone else.
Give grace. Show love. Be the one to stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves.
