Have you never heard?
NLT
Have you never understood?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.
Before you do anything else, I encourage you to read the rest of Isaiah 40.
If you did, did you notice what comes before the passage above? Isaiah 40 holds the words that are found in the Gospel accounts of Jesus in the New Testament. “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord!'”
How amazing is it that God connected these two passages and made Isaiah’s prophesy come true? He does it time and time again.
This tells me that every single word in the above passage is true, too.
We can seek help from people – and I fully support seeking counseling and therapy! – and we should surround ourselves with people who will walk through life with us.
But I tell you, unless we seek God and allow Him to have control of our lives, we’re not going to find true rest or peace or strength.
It amazes me how often I try to fight through life’s battles on my own. I find it very easy to be close to God when everything is going well. It’s in the moments where everything falls apart that clam up and try to do it all myself.
Each time this happens, I promise myself I’ll do better next time. Because, I always inevitably end up reaching the end of my endurance and can do nothing except turn to God.
You’d think going through the cycle again and again would teach me to turn to Him first.
The great part is: even when I’m not turned to Him, God is always turned toward me. Just as He is always turned toward you.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and strength. Help me to remember to turn to You in my times of need. You created all things and, therefore, know all things. I can’t comprehend Your power, but I don’t need to. I just need to trust that You will always carry through on Your promises. Please help me to trust.
