Hope :: There is Always Hope

Bad things are going to happen. There’s no denying that fact. We can do everything right. We can make the right choices, hang out with the right people, do all the right things. And life still knocks us down and holds us under the waves.

When that happens over and over again, it can wear on us. It can make us feel dejected and alone and completely hopeless.

Life can hurt.

We stop where we are and all we can ask is, “Why? Why me? Why this? What’s the point of doing the ‘right’ thing if I only get hurt in the end???”

Believe me, I get it. I’ve seen it countless times and I’ve lived it. Just two and a half weeks ago, I asked some of those questions. Why did it have to be my dad? I came home to be with my whole family, not a family missing it’s head.

Then I was reminded: the true Head is the Holy Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

See, bad things happen. We get to the point where we want to just give up. We can’t see why these things happen and it frustrates us and makes us hurt.

But if we take a step back and see it from a different perspective, we start to see the silver lining; we start to see how God is using these things to draw us and others out of the darkness and into His glorious light.

I might have lost my dad’s human body in December, but I know his spirit is finally at rest. He’s no longer sick. He’s no longer stuck on a machine for half his days. He might not have been able to walk me down the aisle some day, but I know he’s up in Heaven with Jesus, watching, waiting, and praying for me and my family.

You might be wondering: Brittany, why are you talking about God so much? I usually like your posts, but this is just a lot…

Yes, it is a lot. I’ve realized recently that unless I step up and tell my Truth, you will never get to hear my true heart.

Nothing that happens happens without God realizing it. No matter how alone you feel, God is right here with you right now! He has never left your side. He has wept along with you. He has held you when you’ve fallen apart. You may not have seen Him, but I can guarantee you that no matter how far away from Him you felt, He never left you.

And that is where my hope comes from.

Psalm 121

I look up to the mountains – does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!

He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.

The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.

The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
