Hello, dear readers!
So sorry for the delay in getting started for the new year. It was a mix of new beginnings, old habits, and just plain old busy-ness.
But I’m here, I’m back, and it’s time to kick off 2024 with some hope!
I’m not someone who does New Year’s resolutions. I never have been and I’m sure I never will be. I can’t stick with a routine to save my life, so I can’t expect to live up to a resolution.
However, that doesn’t mean I’m not willing to do new things or have resolve in my life. And if any of those things line up with the new year or a new month? Well, that’s just a happy happenstance.
For instance, my new motto (literally just decided on it as I wrote this) is to “be intentional with everything I do.”
I don’t know about you, but I can be a very passive person. I read, passively. I ride the train, passively. Things happen, and I just let them happen. Passively.
Passivity is how we grow stale and disconnected from life.
Reading, riding the train, watching a show, cleaning, writing, editing, talking to people, hanging out with friends… all of these things have merit. But only if they’re done with intention.
As I write this, I realize that I’ve been living passively, and that’s probably part of why things have been a struggle. I have all this potential, and yet it’s sitting there, gathering dust because I’m waiting for life to happen to me.
What’s really funny is that I used to be the exact opposite. Not that I was too intentional. But that I was so focused on getting the end goal done that I wasn’t enjoying the day-to-day. I still wasn’t being intentional.
So don’t let yourself get caught up in that trap.
It’s a delicate balance.
Passivity sucks the life out of us. But when we start living intentionally, we start breathing in hope again. We start seeing the beauty in the mundane, and then the mundane doesn’t seem so ordinary anymore.
Where have you been passive in your life? Where can you be more intentional?
Don’t just be a passenger in your life as everything passes you by. Find joy in every day. Live on purpose.
