If you’re anything like me, you have expectations for yourself as a teacher. You know just how much needs to be done, you know how many extra hours a week you need to work to get everything done, and you get frustrated when you don’t meet those expectations.
Now stop and think for a minute. Imagine your best friend is doing this work instead of you. If they were beating themselves up for not meeting these ridiculous standards, wouldn’t you tell them to stop and take a breath? Wouldn’t you tell them that what they’re doing is pretty great?
Why can’t you do the same with yourself?
As much as we try to be the ‘perfect’ teacher, we all need to remember that we don’t have to be ‘Superman’ or ‘Superwoman’. Especially this year.
Because you want to know what? Doing what we’ve done for the past year is pretty incredible. You’ve already far surpassed ‘Super-‘ anyone in my book.
Have fun. Give yourself grace. Give yourself and your students the room to breathe. Taking time to have fun will only help to raise morale in your classroom – whether or not you’re meeting in person.
What are you doing to create ‘fun’ in your classroom right now? Share in the comments!
