Hope :: Living for Others

Listen here!!!

It’s human nature to live for ourselves and to serve our own needs. I won’t lie. I like being comfortable. I like putting money in savings and knowing it’ll be there “in case.” I like change and tend to run away when any part of my life is uncomfortable, so liking change comes in handy.

When you’re a Christian, we’re called to live for others, to serve others, and to treat others as better than ourselves.

If you’re not a Christian, you don’t have to live by these ideals, but you may still get something from this message, so please read on.

Now, I’m not saying you should be a people-pleaser or should make your own life miserable to help others, but what I am saying is that when we start living for others, we start to gain more out of life.

When we are living life chasing our own pleasures, that pleasure is fleeting. It’s here for a moment and gone and we quickly find ourselves chasing that feeling again and again and again, never truly grasping it for more than an instant before it has disappeared.

Living for others comes from a heart of love, a heart of kindness and giving. We find ourselves finding more joy in life because we know that when we’re in need, those we have served will be able, in return, to serve us. Not out of a sense of obligation, but out of their own overflowing of love and kindness.

We were never called to walk this life alone. I don’t know how many times I’ve said that very line here on my blog, but it’s been enough now that I hope it’s getting through to you, my dear reader. No matter how introverted you might be, you still need people. Help someone out, not out of obligation but simply because you want to. See how you feel after.

We are called to community. Let’s lift others up. Let’s live for one another and not just ourselves. You’ll start to see the difference in your own life.
